When the thunder claps, we’ll nod our heads and tap our feet.
The wind blows in our ears, and out the cracks between our teeth.
To be anything is to be anything but.
To be anybody is to be somebody you're not.
Now the front door’s open wide
and the backdoor’s slamming shut
And the two things I couldn’t live without
are the two things that are holding me down.
I’m anything, and I’m anything but
I’m someone, and I’m someone I’m not
I’m anything, and I’m anything but
I’m someone, and I’m someone I’m not.
When the thunder claps, we’ll nod our heads and tap our feet.
My poor dog’s at the door, scared by the storm, he wants company.

Nostrils full of burning rubber, can’t get far on a blown out tire. Thirty minutes of an eight hour drive spent feeling sorry for myself. But who has time to complain? I’d rather laugh with my friends while we wait.

Backwoods, tree stumps. Sometimes I like to just get lost
and spend some time alone. What are you doing, you’re creeping me out don’t you know? I guess that I don’t mind.
I don’t know what’s going on. I’m sorry I missed your
call me back and we’ll talk. I’m one to talk and
you don’t know what’s going on. I’m sorry I missed your
call me back and we’ll talk. You’re one to talk.
The snow falls lightly, my footprints follow me all the way home.
I found beauty dressed in a pillowcase, hidden in limitations.
Red velvet cake and a tray of cookies, a mountain of sweets and
a big mouth that don’t want to eat.

My arms are tied to strings like the lifeless limbs of a puppet with plastic skin. Worn, and rippling through the winter air; strings that belong in your hands.
You chewed me up and spit me out, I needed that.
Eyes, sharp as ice, cold and blue, cut me in two.
My breath fogs your glasses so you can’t see, I’m not allowed to breathe. They slide off your nose onto the sheets, you’re safe in me. Have you ever wondered why I’m so afraid of all this change- a well inside me, overflowing, I get so nervous I’m scared you’ll notice.
No matter what happens: the sunset’s always right on time. No matter what happens: the nightfall blankets the earth and sky. No matter what happens: remember, the darkness is transient. No matter what happens: come morning, the sun will rise again.
